How to Celebrate Graduated Parties

Both my kids have graduated and I am an empty nester so we’ve been through the gamit as far as graduations are concerned. Graduations occur not only when a child finishes college but throughout their entire milestone grades such as preschool, 6th grade going into high school, high school, and college. There are even graduations beyond college such as med school or any other type of grad school.

It is definitely a part of life and celebrating these milestone events are done in the form of parties or gatherings with loved ones. In these celebrations, there is always food. Isn’t that always an essential part of any party? Yes! Because we gather around food at the table in a home or at a restaurant. It is synonymous with parties. I can’t imagine having a gathering without it!

Celebratory events such as this can be in the form of guests from family members to piers or same age group friends. You can even have a combination of the two. It is always a continuous type of celebration and usually brings in much joy and happiness to the honoree.

Celebrating a completion of sorts makes for a sense of accomplishment and is welcomed by everyone. Parties generally follow a ceremony in which the graduate accepts some type of diploma or certificate of completion indicating he has passed and is ready to pursue the next level of advancement.

Most wear traditional robes in black or blue color along with a graduation cap. Typically this is referred to as a cap and gown. The cap will have a tassel with the year of the graduation dangling from its side. It can be gold or silver in appearance. Most people keep this as a momento and I have seen it hanging from a car’s rear view mirror or on a bedroom dresser. Regardless of where it hung for display, it is a proud symbol of accomplishment.

Having a party is alot of fun after someone has completed some serious work in a grade or field. So if you’re contemplating one, don’t hesitate to do so!

Party Etiquette for Toasting

Giving a toast to the person of honor at any special occasion adds a meaningful element to the day's event. Sometimes towards the end of the meal, a guest can simply stand up, raise their glass, and announce that you would like to make a toast. You can briefly share what you appreciate most about the honoree of the party, a special memory you have of them, or attributes that you admire about them in their presence with your guests to hear.
Raise a Toast and say Cheers
Say CHEERS!!
Everyone will in turn raise their glass and say "Cheers!" I can guarantee it is something the honoree will never forget.  It seems as though we always mean to tell people why we admire them, but all too often those things aren't shared so this is the perfect opportunity to do so in front of everyone. Even if you aren't used to speaking in public or in front of others, take the time to practice a short speech as a gift to them on the special celebration.

Feel free to use a 3" x 5" note card to write down some notes if you need to or rehearse your little speech before the actual event. Don't worry if you think there may be a few tears or even laughter. They'll be tears of happiness or gratitude. Make the most of every opportunity to build others up and share your generous hospitality.

Open a Champagne Bottle to raise a Toast
Open Carefully!!
Use care when opening a bottle of champagne or wine. The contents are under pressure and the cork stoppers can popup abruptly. Put a dishtowel or something over the stopper when opening it, for safety. The secret to a fantastic toast is making it authentic, genuine and heartwarming. Parties are a great opportunity to make a toast, be it a wedding, birthday or anniversary.

I am a big fan of templates and saving precious time in doing something you normally do not have time to do. Yet, the end result is always the same–a professionally created document you can be proud of! We live in a microwave technology and if we can produce something quickly and have it look like, we spent hours on it, why not?

Any type of party of gathering may warrant an invitation. Having a tangible item (even if it was created by you) is always more well received than an informal email. If the get-together is more than 4 people, consider sending an invitation. Doing so adds a flair of formality to the invitation. You can also choose a theme that creates the mood for your event as well. That’s always fun because imagine how many amazing visuals you can select from for any such event. So don’t let life pass you by, look for the do it yourself designs that save time and money.
