Giving a toast to the person of
honor at any special occasion adds a meaningful element to the day's event.
Sometimes towards the end of the meal, a guest can simply stand up, raise their
glass, and announce that you would like to make a toast. You can briefly share what you appreciate
most about the honoree of the party, a special memory you have of them, or attributes
that you admire about them in their presence with your guests to hear.
Everyone will in turn raise their
glass and say "Cheers!" I can guarantee it is something the honoree
will never forget. It seems as though we
always mean to tell people why we admire them, but all too often those things
aren't shared so this is the perfect opportunity to do so in front of everyone.
Even if you aren't used to speaking in public or in front of others, take the
time to practice a short speech as a gift to them on the special celebration.
Say CHEERS!! |
Feel free to use a 3" x
5" note card to write down some notes if you need to or rehearse your
little speech before the actual event. Don't worry if you think there may be a
few tears or even laughter. They'll
be tears of happiness or gratitude. Make the most of every opportunity to build
others up and share your generous hospitality.
Use care when opening a bottle of
champagne or wine. The
contents are under pressure and the cork stoppers can popup abruptly. Put a
dishtowel or something over the stopper when opening it, for safety. The secret to a fantastic toast
is making it authentic, genuine and heartwarming. Parties are a great opportunity
to make a toast, be it a wedding, birthday or anniversary.
